Author: Vanesa Hernandez
Title: The Discrimination & The Hate Amongst our Children in our Public Schools… “The Black & White Code”
Theme: the first major theme is discrimination and prejudice in public schools. The need for more education for young children that everyone is equal is a theme as well.
Author’s background: Vanesa went to a high school where minorities were very low. She had to face discrimination and prejudice everyday. This was the main driving force behind her writing this book. She wanted to make a difference in the future children and their education.
I enjoyed reading this book because it was passionate and personal. I agree with the author about the need for young children to be educated about how people are different. I have a little brother and he is very impressible. If we educate children young it will have more of an effect of them. I liked how the Vanesa bought in her life to the book. She talked about an uncle that had problems as a teenager trying to get back into school. She also talked about growing up in her school and seeing the discrimination and prejudice.
