something that hits close to home: lack of black organ donors

After I read the lack of black organ donors i realized that the black community is not doing enough to save lives. Since i am a part of that community i feel that this book will make me take a stance as an organ donor. the book was written by the lovely Melody Gilliard who's purpose to write this was to inform people of the lack of black organ donors. I think knowing first hand how serious this situation is Melody did not just give information, but by giving the story with her mother needing an organ donor she gave a sense of genuine concern. The information given is astonishing. seeing that blacks are more common with heart diseases you would think it would be more donors, but that is not the case when the percentage for blacks in the U.S. is lower than blacks waiting for heart or blood transplants. i think Melody showed great examples in her book and really touched an issue that was put in the shadows. I recommend reading this.
